Khukuri (Gorkha Knife)

The Nepali Khukuri, also known as the kukri, is a distinctive short sword. It features a distinctive recurve blade. It serves multiple purposes: As a melee weapon, As a regular cutting tool across most of South Asia. The kukri gained global recognition during the Gurkha War of 1814–1816, when the East India Company clashed with the growing Gorkha Kingdom. Gurkhas, native Nepali speakers, traditionally wielded the kukri. The Gurkha Army considers it a characteristic weapon.

Beyond combat, the khukuri serves various purposes: Farmers and laborers use it for cutting crops and clearing brush. Hunters employ it for skinning and cleaning game. It functions as a cooking tool, a woodworking instrument, and even a ceremonial object in Nepalese religious traditions.
